Importing Bovril to the USA From a British Food Shop - Is it Legal?

It is really a fact of life that lots of brands of UK foods are difficult to purchase in the united states. Although there are lots of wonderful food brands in the united states, there are some popular products you'd find in an english food shop that ex-patriots find they can't buy within their new country of residence. Sometimes, a familiar flavour is much more than just a food craving, and may bring back memories from the friends and family an individual has left behind.

It isn't any surprise to understand that many people turn to importing there own food after that native countries, to get the flavour of familiar foods they have come to know and love.

Bovril is a such food that may be hard to find in the united states. After the BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy / Mad Cow Disease) outbreak, Bovril was banned in several countries because of it's beef content. The recipe for Bovril was changed in 2004 to really make it into a vegetarian product; this didn't prove very popular with many Bovril lovers, whom complained it tasted different, and also the original recipe returned in 2006 following the European Commission lifted its ban about the export of Britain's beef products.

It continues to be rumoured that Bovril is not allowed to be imported to the USA along with other countries because of it's beef content. This really is quite simply not the case. Provided the right paperwork is finished by the exporter there isn't any risk from the item being stopped and seized by customs like a restricted product, and Bovril is perfectly legal to import from the British food store.
